Richard LeMoyne Morgan, 63, of 505 Amy Lane, Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday May 1, 2010. Richard was the son of the late William Richard Morgan and was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Kent Morgan.

Richard was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He was a tax appraiser for Halifax County.

Richard was a 1964 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and a 1968 graduate of North Carolina State University. He was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his daughters; Kim M. Tharpe and her husband, Tommy, of Statesville, NC; Donna Griffies and her husband, Scott, and Kay Allen and her husband, Jay, all of Roanoke Rapids; his mother, Amy Dufford Morgan of Roanoke Rapids; his sister, Amy Sue Joyner and her husband, Terry, of Roanoke Rapids; his brother, Tommy Morgan and his wife, Juliana, of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Ryan Tharpe, Zachery Tharpe, Cole Tharpe, Jacob Griffies, Taylor Griffies, Madison Allen and Emilee Allen; his niece, Morgan J. Keeter and her husband, Gus, of Scotland Neck; and his nephew, Todd Morgan and his wife, Cristy, of Gainsville, Florida.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 2, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids and other times at the home.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Morgan’s service to his country.
